ObamaCare Subsidies for mother in-law

Hi there,

After reading so much I still can't quite get it. My mother in law is living with us. She is 55 and doesn't work (has 0$ income). Doesn't have any children under 19. And we won't claim her as a dependent this year.

When we fill in the application on healthcare website, they ask about household  income. Do we even need to mention our names  (her daughter and myself)  there?

From our understanding if she doesn't have $12,000 of income she cannot apply for Obamacare and must go on Medicaid. If she is rejected by Medicaid she then sends the rejection letter from Medicaid to Obamacare. Then they will work on something to get her coverage. That is what we were told when signing up my daughter.

Add: Maybe you can count your MIL as part of your household and use your income but once you get above $45K the price of Obamacare goes up fairly high.
